Absurdist Lover is the solo project of one Sendy (birth name Alex Cornhill), an eccentric transsexual artist and social misfit with the appropriate level of contempt for normalcy and mediocrity, who has been using computers and keyboards to create music since the late 80's, starting on the Commodore 64 and progressing to the Amiga which could be used as a four channel 8-bit sampler. In these days she learned about tracking, midi programming, and most importantly, taught herself the many styles of breakbeat manipulation and editing and the art of using a sampling device as an instrument to explore at the time very new sonic territories now referred to as IDM and breakcore. Finally a PC was obtained in 2001 and she made the shift to using a PC and softsynths, and has never looked back since. This afforded a new level of absurdity to be reached in the arrangement and glitchiness stakes, and gave her a chance to learn how to mix more professionally using compressors and sound shaping programs. Her music has been compared to Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Wisp et al but of course is no pale imitation despite the similarities. Laymen describe the sound as a mix between classical, funky jazz, drum and bass, and glitch-pop; or any combination and anything inbetween. Fans of the Commodore 64 and Amiga music scene may notice the influences these styles of what is essentially a new type of contemporary folk music have had on her sound and approach to arrangement. | ||

Before my big Satori but some people really like it. I don't have the original wav or files, I lost them in a crash, and this had to be converted from mp3 to wav and back to mp3 at a lower b/rate but I think it sounds OK.

I opted for a 3 part fugue with mostly exact transposition. The first, third and second voices play roughly the same thing at different starting points and transposed. In the second variation I added a contrapuntal melody on top. In the third variation I altered the bass line, and in the 4th variation I removed the fugue parts leaving just the newly-formed parts.
