Brainbelly Title: Use of Notebook tool by Google

This is a test but you'll probably see more posts to my blog because of it.

It allows me to collect links and make notes to myself. The online app also allows for co-writing/editing with a list of users of your choice. The shared notebook can be edited online and also locally via a plug-in to the browser. I'm using Firefox browser... dont know how or if the plug works in Internet Explorer.

I'm now (as of Feb 1 2008) the proud owner of a new 24" screen Apple iMac
getting used to where common functions are located and how and where to move and store files
finding out which programs I had on my PC are available for Mac and which ones are compatible with intel Leopard

***This software is SOOOooo freaking cool for audio file management and quick edits!***

If you're on a mac and haven't heard of it yet, check it out!

(PS: I can really lust after Speakerphone by the same company http://audioease.com/Pages/Speakerphone/speakerphone.html )

Snapper by Audio Ease

What's Snapper ?
When you select an audio file in the Mac Finder, Snapper immediately appears right beneath the current window, showing you the wave form.

Play
Hit the space bar or double-click in the wave form to play. Or use auto-play to start playing the moment you select the file. Vari-speed is available too.

Drag, Drop and Convert
In the Snapper wave form you can select a part of the sound file and:
• drag it out, to create a new file.
• upload it to your Pro Tools cursor.
• turn the selection into an mp3 file.
• split stereo files into separate .L and .R files or vise versa
• convert to mp4 and attach it to an email in one go.
• export to AIFF, WAV, BWF, mp3, or m4a.

Which formats can it handle?
All of them.
Snapper opens over 50 sound file formats. That includes compressed files, split stereo, 192 kHz, 5.1 surround files, red book audio, cds and movies containing audio. It shows loops, markers, timestamps, regions, BWF annotations, even album covers. You name it, Snapper can handle it.

Finder & iTunes
Snapper follows your Finder selection, snapping to the bottom of your Finder window, and it also shows up when you select a song in your iTunes library.

Pro Tools
You can spot (selections from) files directly to your Pro Tools cursor, or into the Pro Tools region bin.

Copy Protection
After purchase you receive a personal activation code to unlock the Snapper demo.

What does the demo do ?
Everything, for one hundred (100!) days. After that it simply stops working. Download the demo here.

System Requirements
• Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or higher.
• For mp3 export the (free) LAME codec.
• Snapper can upload to Pro Tools 6 or higher.

Well the Alesis IO|26 is pretty good but...

I trouble shot my Sonar that was doing drop-out almost immediately upon just *playing* a track by installing the updates to Sonar and made sure my rates and clock mastering were set. This seemed to work and I had a session with recording four tracks in simultaniously and no problem. Recorded another track besides that while monitoring out on the other four, no problem.

Today I sit in front of the computer, load Sonar, load song, hit play... blue screen.

Restart. Make sure network is disconnected. Virus check disabled. Load Sonar, load song, play, boom...blue screen. (and I did it one more time just to "make sure" I was seeing it right) something with Alesis1394.sys?

So I'm a bit miffed. Um one thing maybe to check out. What did I do between then (recording) and now (playback)? Hmmm... I DID just "upgrade" MS Media player from 10 to 11. Now THAT couldn't be a problem could it? I mean Microsoft wouldn't step on the toes of any program using its OS would it??

Gad.... what next?

Brainbelly Title: Studio gets a new IO

The io I was waiting for finally arrived (sorry earth for all the pollution created in transport just to satisfy corporate greed and feed a few more Chinese citizens) This is a firewire connected mix input output. It is a nice compact unit the size of a thick book. Easy 8 in and out plus adat inputs to raise the number more than twofold. next task for me is to optimize my Sonar platform (a questionable mission on a business machine Dell 4700)

Update on my (since July '06) project. Studio is well equipped now but still waiting on some new mixing controls. I've had some very satisfying jams with various instruments all midied and synced but digging in and committing to tracks has mostly escaped me. I hope the new IO will encourage me to just go for it and not get hung up with patching and re patching between takes
