Finally! Now I can focus on that long overdue drum and bass track (that will be called: I don't want to be closer).

Soon, only some minor tweaks left...

Listening To: Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch: No Remorse

The music for the kids tv show is more or less finished. There will be some minor tweaks when we add it to the graphics but that will not be a big deal. It has been interesting to work with it since I have been asked to make it more of a traditional film score thing. Now it is not exactly a film score, but the instrumentation is pretty much orchestral all the way through (except for the drums).

It is not easy to breath some life into orchestral samples.. It took a lot of automation and messing about. All that for 16 seconds of music... *sigh* At least I recorded the sax and the trumpet myself...

Not that I have not done this kind of thing before (did music for another show a few years ago) but I still I learnt a lot though... Both about how to work with orchestration but also about how to communicate about music with non-musicians... :-O

Not sure if I can put any of the music online... Will check with them when I have made the final delivery.

The Drum and Bass track (it will be called: "I don't want to be closer" btw) is almost finished. There are a few minor things that need to be fixed, but I hope to fix them tonight or tomorrow night.

That brings me to a point... I have been debating whether to save stuff for demos and possible exclusive releases or not... In particular I am working on a Drum and Bass demo and I have decided to put everything up available as stream-only. Not that it is impossible to stream it to disk or anything but I seriously doubt that any label would care. Besides I also doubt that any label would want to release it, not due to lack of quality rather I know from first hand experience how incredibly hard it is to release anything offline these days (been running the Chillosophy Music label together with a friend, but I guess that most of you that read this already know this).

Anyhow, I think it is time to end this nonsense rant now... I will make another post as soon as I have put up the Drum and Bass demo.

 /Yours truly

I am still determined not to let this attempt to blog fail as my last ones... :-)

In short:

  • Got hired to make music and sounds for a kids tv show. Yay! Can't say much more at this point.
  • Still working on the Drum and Bass track
  • Going through all of my music, track source, recordings and everything... Trying to make some backups and figuring out what I actually have done in my musical career (career?!? )

Listening To: Mat E - The Delta Quadrant (Space remix)

*sigh* sitting alone at the office. I am about to pick up the second cup of coffee. This is the best part of the day, when i get to be alone here - so much easier to focus (on things such as writing blogs ).

Anyhow, the track is progressing - I needed to put the DnB track on hold for a week as I was pitching for a vignette music for a kids-program (is that the English word for it, you know, the music they play in the intro).

Time for coffee, just wanted to pop-in and say I am alive (I will really try to make this blogging attempt more than a one-post-a-year-thing...).

Finally begun making some progress on my latest tune... Feels great!

I am also beginning to be more and more convinced that moving back to software was the right move, at least at this point in my life. Not that I couldn't change back - haven't sold my hardware yet. It has not been an easy decision to make but when I look at my move to hardware, in hindsight I realize that it actually has closed a few doors instead of opening them. Simply put, working in software, completely digital just suits me better. I have denied that fact for too long now.

Still I will miss my nice fat analogue mixing desk but I know things will be better this way. My workflow will get so much faster. I will keep my studio and some hardware to be able to record my sax and guitar and stuff. I will also do the final mixing in the studio (don't want to finish the mix without listening to it on proper monitors and my neighbours wouldn't be too happy if I rigged my studio monitors at home...)

Anyhow, maybe I should get back to the music now :-)
