Listening To: my backing tracks to the 1920 version of L'Atlantide for AHL-i Naf's upcoming performances

we used to have a stray dog that we took in - almost totally deaf - that could predict storms. he could sense changes in barometric pressure and feel the vibrations of thunder through his paw pads long before you could ever hear it. chickadees are the same way. they know when a big weather change is on its way. not sure how they do it. this morning after letting the horses out, I was working on the wood pile while waiting for the vet (no biggie - just routine stuff this time), toking up before the big arctic front slammed us down into the single digits, and I was suddenly harangued by droves of chickadees informing me that the sunflower seeds in the feeder were getting low. (it's interesting that they never hassle Misha about this). I topped them off and stuck the mic out the window. you can listen to it here. the day looked a lot like this. as a bonus, there's a ubiquitous chicken or two and a Chinese pheasant.

Listening To: James Brown on the tubes, chickadees in the feeder

11/23/06 12/48 am - it's over at my music page here - ok, the original idea was to sonically capture the wolf howling somewhere over by Mt Fanny, but sure enough, once I got everything fired up, he was gone. or at least silent. isn't that how it always seems to go? heh. don't see or hear them very often, and the offical gov't stance is that they're really not here (the moose, grizzly, and wolverine are apparently imaginary too). probably part of one of the reintroduction programs in Idaho - but that's not much distance for wolf turf. awesome creatures, but I've got lots of critters... so far so good & hope it stays that way.

anyway, no wolf on this blog :(. but he sure got the neighbors dog going. first wave of a snow storm had just gone through & things had warmed above freezing again so it was a snow/rain mix with globs of melt sliding off the roof - interesting rhythms. there's a jet passing through somewhere in the middle and a few other strange odds & ends - which might have been quail bursts.

right now the sun man is back with blue skies, pies are cooling, james brown is funking out on the tubes, the t-bird is warming up, and I'm looking at five days off of work :) hey-> Happy Thanksgiving everybody. today & everyday. health & happiness ;)

not much into the blog thing. why would the planet care what I think about this or that? if you want a chat along those lines, come over for coffee. sooo, I decided to do an audio blog from time to time. posted the first one just now. its over on my music page. here. better as an idea than as a recording - I just shoved my headset mic up against the screen. lucky I recorded it at all considering the interest all the cats were taking in my activity. rain storm headed in so the wind kicks up - which recorded as a very strange flangy sort of thing. various wind chimes. branches & acorns falling against the house. chickens scratching around. 4'33" ;) I used to do this all the time with much better results - apparently need to brush up again on my technique. will do.

I will attempt to think creatively about posting some other things here from time to time, but for now this is (sort of) what it sounded like outside my window this pm. have a listen. maybe do one yerself, eh?
