Vernal pools are some of the oldest ecosystems since the triassic period. Where I take this picture, is on top of a basaltic plain that is 800 feet higher than the surrounding area; which makes a gnarly cliff to look off of. About the pools- they have unique creatures that grow no where else but in a hard rock plateau environment; undisturbed for generations. Watch for fairy shrimp!!
