Review: Ever since stumbling across "Thuba Mleen", I've kept my eye out for Adrian Bond. After several months, I decided to check up on him and took this tune for a ride. Boy did I underestimate him. Despite the "progressive electronica" designation (i'm still confused about that) this tune is a perfect example of drum 'n bass a la ambient. It is also a perfect example of what the artist does best. Dirty, barroom drums skitter across synth landscapes that seem impossibly complex and surreal. The fact that you can't distinguish one part from another in this surprisingly uncluttered conglamaration adds to the beauty; the parts intertwine and morph like an oil spill on the road catching sunlight. The artist takes us into these ever-changing sound labyrinths and just as quickly pulls us out to a sudden breakdown that is as inevitable as it is unexpected. Repeat necessarily, and at the end, like a well-built rollercoaster, you want to start again right away.
