What is the donated money going to be used for?

The donations will go toward the costs of hardware upgrades, and software.

But, it's your service - why don't you buy this equipment?

This site doesn't generate very much money from the ads displayed on the site, you might have noticed we are strict on ads and do not have any animated nor popups. We also do not generate enough revenue from account upgrades as we need to cover the expenses required to run this service. So, we ask the community to help us cover these hard expenses so that we can continue to help artists and bring music fans together todiscover independent music.

A quick history for those of you that have just joined us... ArtistServer is run by and developed by a single person (hi!) and all the work has been done for free since 2001. I'm doing what I can to provide an ideal online destination for those interested in music, photos and video. While I can afford to do this work, I could definately use some help in covering some of the expenses. The best thing you can do, is upgrade your account, then, if you're still feeling generous, make a donation, it does help.

Who are you?

My name is Gideon, and on the site, you can find my music under the 'Sonic Wallpaper.' I was initially on mp3.com back when things were just starting to roll. It was amazing for the first year or so, but then the constant changes w/ the artist agreements, the spam, and the horrible service, I began to feel that there had to be a better way to run a music site.

That 'better way' grew into a 'plan' to develop a new site and service. One that is artist centric. As a developer and an artist, I dove in, I asked people questions, developed a prototype, and launched a service. That was nearly five years ago. I'm still here - I'm still working hard - I'm still in love w/ the music.

And now, it's your turn to help everyone. Please, consider how much joy music brings to people, how the site provides an excellent place for artists to share their music and ideas, and how music fans can freely experience fresh new music every day. Your donation will mean so much! Even if you only donate $5, that will add up and get us closer to the goal amount.
