Manual Motiv was born during the summer of 1999, when songwriter/guitarist Kevin Kelsey grew weary of playing in the usual guitar+bass+drums+vocal type groups. It was during his time as guitarist for Symphonic Din (along side of Jared Christians, and Tyler Greer of Ledger Demain) that he decided to branch out his musical skills, by incorporating the usage of new instruments, computers. Along with his newly aquired hardware, Kevin began creating some basic techno songs. Still silently searching for something else, Kevin began to branch out a bit; take an experimentalist approach to music. Over the years, Kevin experimented with diferent electronic styles and genres. Everything from House, Trance and Garage, to Jungle, Breakbeat and D n'B tracks were produced by this madman. None of these styles were ever completely satisfing, so he kept on searching....

...Time had passed, seasons had changed, and the new millenium had finally begun. With this new year Manual Motiv branched out once again, recruiting another member, Kevin's brother, Chris. Along with being an experienced guitarist/bassist, Chris brought a love for hip hop, and old punk rock into the fold. Together Chris and Kevin started working on new Manual Motiv material, which quickly shaped into down tempo, sample based grooves. "We'd look through piles of old records for hours, trying to find the right beat for a song, and then we'd end up finding something totally different, and it would work perfectly with another track we we're working on." *laughs* "That kind of stuff happens to us all the time..." - Chris Kelsey, Lyricist/Guitarist for Manual Motiv.

As we rest at the dawn of 2002, Manual Motiv pushes forward, creating some of the tightest trip hop, hip hop and experimental electronic music known to man. Only time will tell what direction this new year might send them hurling...
