Started life as a poem with a dark edge, took on something of a rock edge when music was applied.

Profile

Artist/Band Profile: Working as an independent artist I have been in many bands over the years. I am working under a band name as the approach to recording and finished product are unlike a solo artist. So it's just me.

Similar Artists: Have been compared to Lou Reed, even Jim Morrison (what they say not me).

Music Style: Guitar indie with the emphasis on mood and atmosphere. Getting the most out of the idea around the song is paramount. Skills used in blues, funk, jazz are put to work too. There is no fear of experimentation or space and simplicity.

Reviews: Review of Brief Compartment by white van
Genre: Experimental Rock 3.2

A dose of rock insanity
This is a psychedelic samba with quite mad male vocals. A strong chopped-up Beatles style guitar riff drives the song all the way through. It is the sort of stuff that Talking Heads could have turned out in their prime. The singer performs with an excellent intensity, understated most of the time, just like the excellently intense David Byrne. Even though the singer is not quite in tune it sounds okay, it just adds to the general feeling of madness. There is a kind of question-answer dialogue between a slide guitar and the vocals in the middle of the tune, and a suitably insane crescendo is used to finish off the song. Very dynamic and very original, and produced without any fancy effects, just the traditional constellation of drums, bass, guitar, and vocals. This really is experimental rock, and with a distinctly human feel. Absolutely brilliant.

Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Gui

Influences: The Smiths, the Pixies, Pavement, Al Green, George Clinton, Velvet Underground, Modest Mouse.

Studio / Music Equipment: I am a guitarist who has taken in numerous rock styles, never matal though. I record with electric and acoustic guitars. Drums and bass are high quality VST instruments. These are real sounds recorded not simulated and every beat and note has felt a human touch. Recording is done at home via computer. No time pressures, I come to it when I'm ready and inspired.
